GODREJ WOODSMAN ESTATE- BANGALORE

The Clubhouse building which has a carpet area of 28,000 square feet, has three levels of various activities. We had to do a space analysis on the activity allocation and come up with a design which would allow the sports activities and recreational spaces to be seamlessly integrated in the floor plans at three levels. Careful selection of material specifications to ensure an aesthetic appeal of vintage charm and modern contemporary styling of the overall interiors ensured that the interior spaces looked simple yet very eclectic. The introduction of three well appointed service apartment rooms for the residential needs of visiting guests of the condominium owners, has been a boon and on hindsight, more rooms could have been planned with an independent entry has been mooted by the architects. The use of wooden venetian blinds as opposed to conventional curtain drapes keeps the control of light more efficient and also aesthetically pleasing. Allowing the interior false ceiling to be designed in accordance to the existing ceiling profile which has sloping roofs with Mangalore tile roofing gives a feeling of high vaulted spaces so typical of the early 1900s designed, English “tavern” clubhouses that one sees in the Metropolitan cities of Mumbai Bangalore and Kolkatta. To give that distinctive feeling of old world charm, we had teakwood cladding done on staircase treads of the central stairwell in the central atrium, along with a contemporary handrail design that follows through in to other areas as well. The flooring is laid in stone vitrified tiles of various sizes to give a ashlars’ stone flooring effect. Lighting is predominantly diffused through lighting coves but we have chosen exposed light fixtures which have a “period” style design to them. The furniture selected for the cafeteria and lounge areas is cane rattan or water reed wicker, which lend a rustic feel to the interiors. Thus a warm and “homely” feel has been achieved to get the residents of the condominiums feel like members of an elite club.
