Green Building Initiative:
Design Brief: The primary aim was to develop a design program that would restructure the existing layout of the interior premises located on the first floor of the Administration and Laboratory building and repurpose the building envelope for adaptive reuse |
|
Expanding existing floor space to increase usable floor area |
|
A separate access from the ground area to the Electrical and server room has been provided in addition to the existing access from the first floor. This ensures a better safety aspect in the planning and design at the perimeter level |
|
Improved natural lighting, to permeate within the interior spaces. |
|
Improvise on the façade to make the exterior of the building more aesthetically appealing |
|
Introduce sustainable features both within the interior as well as on the exterior of the building |
Why GREEN?
Buildings influence Global Warming as we use half the world's energy to heat, cool, light, ventilate and power our buildings. As the bulk of that energy is derived from fossil fuels, the resultant effect is that buildings are major contributors of at least 40% of all CO2 emissions, thus contributing in a major way to global warming and climate change
As responsible designers the aim must be to cut the energy consumption of the building as part of the combat to reduce global warming.
What was important was to present an overall façade on the South and East side of the building which would give a light and less box like appearance of the building.
Also, since the refurbishment of the Interior at the First floor level were for the administration department, they would require both abundant natural light and better natural ventilation.
